The library of Kursk Gymnasium No. 4 is unrecognizable today. The room, which was previously occupied by shelves with books, got rid of them completely. We are talking, of course, about racks. There are more than 38,000 books left. Now they will live in a spacious room, on new shelves, and in the future – in a digital format.
– Analyzing what we need and how we can optimize the work of the library, – says the deputy director for educational work of Gymnasium No. 4 Roman Filipov, – we initially saw that there are a number of publications that are used by a large number of students at one time, then there are whole parallels. I won’t hide it, some copies could be missing. Therefore, we are now actively digitizing our fund. And children can access electronic versions of publications.
As of today, only 15% of the book collection has been digitized in the library, but the work continues. In addition to the scanner, high-speed and multifunctional devices, equipment for school television and newspapers were purchased with the grant, and the librarian’s workplace was modernly equipped. This is a powerful computer and software that will make it possible to speed up work with readers.
– According to the terms of the grant, we must definitely hold events here, – clarifies the director of MBAU “Gymnasium No. 4” Sviatlana Martynava. – Today, the opening of the library is the first event. And then we have such beautiful ideas. These are literary parties and some parties.
In the morning, the renovated library was solemnly opened to songs and applause. Starting today, schoolchildren, teachers, and parents will start using all its advantages and, of course, the book fund.
– I am very happy that the library has become brighter, newer, more convenient, – shares Matsvei Davydov, a 6th grade student of Gymnasium No. 4. – I like that there is a space to sit and work, not just to read. It is great that copies of all textbooks used in our school will appear on the gymnasium website.
The modernization of the school library, by the way, will continue. There are plans to create a recreation area and a co-working area.
